How time flies? Twenty five years ago, I dreamt of what could be if we begun the best real estate company. I had been scammed on my first attempt to create a bright future in my retirement by a smooth cartel – and lost all my savings! I believed and trusted too fast I guess, but that notwithstanding, the event changed my resolve towards life and my vow to offer the public dependable investments in real estate thus begun.
Looking back, the journey has been marred by a number of hurdles – some a whole course for lessons and others, well the very reason books upon books have been written. All in all the journey continues and as a brand Optiven has stayed true to the course – to provide investors with state of the art products and services guided by our values, professionalism, honesty, customer obsession and innovation.
When thinking of leadership I cannot say it is all my work, no, that would be a white lie. I have over the years walked in the footsteps of mentors I look upto and a network of friends that have lit my path. I have also learnt from those who look to me for mentorship and leadership both within and without. The outcome has been transformed lives and a myriad awards which I appreciate with great humility.
In that same journey, I have travelled to Europe, Australia, the USA and more recently Africa. In all these spaces, I saw the mirror image of China in all these continents. It was not just an observation but an opportunity for learning leadership lessons and how these can be applied to better our country.
What has China done to shine a light on leadership?
- Partnership – As a country, China has been at the forefront in partnering with African nations to develop them for the future.
- Support – China has provided social, economic, financial and philanthropic support to the continent. In Kenya particularly, we have had benefitted from the Forum on China Africa Cooperatoin FOCAC where Chinese President Xi Jinping announce 50billion dollars in financial support for the period ending 2024 – 2026.
- Action – Through the recovery process of China, we see the realization of the 2014 ambitious yet achievable Targetted Poverty Alleviation TPA. Under this initiative, the population in China was guaranteed basic needs in addition to medical services, housing, water, electricity, and compulsory free education.
The three achievements lend credibility to my mantra IT IS DOABLE.
Transformation therefore is about overcoming challenges, impeding all things that hinder growth, and reviving all that is needed to attain a level of development. As we celebrate 25 years of Transformation at Optiven, we carry on our vision and with tenacity in the knowledge that our experience is a window to the possibilities available for our people and residents of the world.
Indeed the future is bright.
