it’s safe to say that now more than ever before, innovation is the unrelenting drive to break the status quo and develop anew where few have dared to go. For years there has been little happening within the Ministry of Lands, with some citizens loosing faith in the system altogether.
It is this scenario that investors in land particularly those in the diaspora looked forward to a change from Farida Karoney. She was officially appointed in February 2018 as Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Lands and Physical. Her appointment to the docket from the media was received in a lackluster manner but the strides made so far are worth noting.
The Ministry has since embraced the digitization of land registry to ease loopholes causing fraud. This was Kickstarted by the launch of a digital land registry to improve service and boost government revenues. Speaking at the launch Karoney said the government has been losing revenue under the manual land registry.
The launch of the digital platform in 2019 came after the government shut down the land registry for a period of two weeks. The migration of the land information management system to the digital platform also increased the speed of delivery of government services.
The launch was graced by top government officials and presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Speaking at the event held at the National Geospatial Data Center, Uhuru advised that ARDHISASA would protect Kenyans from cartels, middle men and fraudsters who have been a sore in matters of land since Independence.
And this month, the Ministry has yet again launched ARDHISASA. The new innovation means that at the click of a button, users will now be able to search and carry out various land transactions, drastically reducing human interactions, delays and other inconveniences previously experienced at manual land registries. Citizens and investors will now be able to access Government services and information on land from the comfort of homes or offices, using mobile phones or computers.
So how does it work?
- Individuals can access it by logging on to ardhisasa.lands.go.ke
- Register an account on the website.
- Provide information such as identification serial number, Identification number, phone number and email address.
- Enter your password to complete the registration process.
- The portal will then open allowing users to browse through various services.
